Carl H. Eigenmann and Rosa Smith Eigenmann, both students at Indiana University, married in 1887. They went to Harvard University to study the Agassiz fish collection for about two years, and then returned to California where Mr. Eigenmann served as Curator of Fishes at San Diego and at San Francisco. Indiana University student and wife of Professor Carl H. Eigenmann. Rosa Smith Eigenmann was an internationally known ichthyologist and the first librarian of the San Diego Society of Natural History. She wrote numerous articles of her studies and was considered an authority on fish.
